How to Play SpellBee
The hive shows seven letters. Six sit around one in the middle. Type or tap letters to build a word, then press Enter. A word needs four letters at the very least, and it must use the middle letter. Letters may repeat inside the same word, so a word with two of the same letter is fine.
If your word is in our list, it flies into your found words box with its points. If not, the game says so and you lose nothing but a moment. I keep a pen and paper next to me when I play. Odd habit, but it helps me see the letters in a new way.
Spelling Bee Rules and Scoring
- Four letters earn one point. A short word still pays, so do not skip the small ones.
- Longer words pay by length. A five letter word gives five points, a six letter word gives six, and so on.
- Pangrams pay the most. A word with all seven letters earns its length plus seven bonus points. Each hive has at least one.
- Ranks come from your total. Every hive has a top score. Hit two percent of it and you pass Beginner. Seventy percent makes you a Genius. One hundred percent makes you Queen Bee.

- Start with the middle letter. Say it over and over in your head, then try adding one letter at a time. AT, then ATE, then maybe RATE.
- Hunt the endings. Letters like S, ING, ED and ER hide at the end of many words. Try each one on your best root.
- Try double letters. Words like LETTER or BUBBLE use the same letter twice, and players forget this more than anything else.
- Shuffle when stuck. The Shuffle button spins the six outer letters. A fresh layout shakes loose new words. I use it about ten times per hive.
- Use hints with no shame. The hint shows the first letters of a real word. One small peek can teach you a whole pattern.
